Samir Ansari Showreel Feedback
29/07/22
Samir's feedback was to do with what to expect in my showreel when I created it. He advised me to create some different styles of animation as well as different disciplines. He also suggested I add a moving dynamic camera to my shots to help make them feel more alive and appealing. The final comment he made on the matter was that I should try to make all the animations as context based as possible, meaning not just walk cycles or looping animations. To me this was a great idea as I could make my reel feel that bit more alive than ones I had seen on YouTube prior. Please see my original showreel below.

It took some time to get all this back to Samir however I feel based on this feedback I created a very competent reel which covers a range of different disciplines and styles, however mainly focussing on realism animation more so than stylized. After showing him my new and improved showreel he said “I've a look and this is SO much better - great work dude! I really love the dynamic camera angles especially and I feel your reel now demonstrates a broader range of skills. I would advise you start sending this out to VFX or games studios as is. Can you send me your latest CV and I'll pass your details on to Cinesite HR.” So I think it's fair to say I am incredibly happy with the result. Please find my improved showreel below.

Brent George Anim Challenge Feedback
05/10/22
Although I ultimately didn't receive much feedback for this animation due to the sheer volume of people who admitted their animation to the anim challenge, I still value this as good feedback. Brent George said my animation was “Really nice, very cool. Nice camera work.” This to me shows that I took Samir's feedback well into consideration and have a solid grasp on how to make my camera that bit more interesting. Other than that though there wasn't much else I could take from this feedback, but happy overall with the result.
Bring Your Own Animation - Chester Sampson Feedback
26/10/22
The first BYOA I attended was in October 2022 where I met Chester Sampson. He gave me some good feedback on my current reel (shown above). He suggested that I should firstly make the intro with my name much shorter and also take out my email address from the bottom right of the showreel. Animation wise the only feedback I was really given was to improve the back and forth of the antenna on top of the tank and make sure I add a settle at the end of it to a complete stop. I unfortunately wasn't able to do this due to the maya file completely breaking, however I did shorten the intro and removed my email from the bottom right. Please find below my improved reel based on feedback I received.

Bring Your Own Animation - Vanessa Alessi Feedback
29/03/23
The second BYOA event I attended I received quite a lot of feedback on my showreel from a woman named Vanessa Alessi. She firstly said to completely remove the bird animation from my reel. Obviously she didn't like that one. For the lion animation she recommended I take out the roaring animation as it looks a bit too static and boring, but for the first walking animation she recommended I add a complete stop to the end to just add that bit of finish to the animation. She also suggested that I should make the leg straight before the impact of the drop animation to just finish it off. I feel all of the feedback was valid and very helpful. Please find below my improved animations based on her feedback.

Samir Ansari FMP Feedback
01/04/23
My final piece of industry feedback was from Samir once again. He was interested in seeing my digi double shots when they were complete. Once I had finished the car flip animation I sent it over to him to have a look. Please find it below.

Although I was initially very happy with the result of my animation Samir did have some very useful feedback. And it was about something I had never taken truly into consideration while making this animation. The physics of the car affects the physics of the body. He said “Hi Sam, that looks great! In my opinion I think it would look more dynamic to have the roll start a few frames earlier as if the counterforce of the car was far stronger and forced the body forwards faster. You can put these lost frames on the arc/landing to add more weight. So in summary, faster into the roll, slightly slower while at the peak of the arc when the digi is in the air.” This feedback I feel not only improved this animation but has made me aware enough to apply it to any future animation which I make. Which to me is incredibly valuable, allowing me to not only improve this single animation, but improve as an animator. Please find my improved animation below.

Industry Feedback Sum Up
Overall I feel I have received very useful feedback from industry professionals and veterans alike. I feel I took on the feedback well and acted upon it accordingly improving my animations as suggested. Not only that but I also learned plenty of things which I can take into my animations in future, from keeping in mind physics of objects when colliding with them, to generally adding nice settles and keeping legs straight until impact. All important and useful feedback that I will carry with me and keep in mind as I create more professionally polished animations.
